AURORA, Colo. — An intersection in Aurora was partially closed as authorities investigated what led up to a crash involving an ambulance and one other vehicle Tuesday morning.

The southbound lanes of Peoria Street at E. 30th Avenue were shut down around 4:55 a.m. as authorities worked at the scene of the crash, Aurora police said. Both northbound lanes on Peoria reopened at 7:17 a.m. and the soundbound lanes opened around 7:30 a.m.

Aurora police said a Denver Health ambulance was driving north and was driving without lights or sirens. A SUV was moving westbound and the driver ran a red light, t-boning the ambulance.

The two paramedics inside the ambulance had minor injuries. The two people inside the SUV were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Aurora police said the driver of the SUV will likely be cited with careless driving and for running a red light.

Simon Crittle with Denver Health Medical Center said the ambulance was not transporting any patients at the time of the crash.

Aurora police asked drivers to avoid the area and expect delays.

Denver7 Traffic Anchor Jayson Luber recommended using Havana Street to Moline Street and then to 25th Avenue and back to Peoria Street. Taking 30th Avenue east to Sable or Smith Road to either Sable or Chambers are also good alternates.
