A woman walking on Interstate 25 in Larimer County was struck and killed by a vehicle early Sunday morning.

She was hit by a 2006 Ford Expedition near the exit to the Johnson's Corner Truck Stop around 3:05 a.m.

Northbound lanes of I-25 were closed until about 6:30 a.m. as troopers investigated what happened.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene, according to Trooper Tim Sutherland a spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol.

Investigators were working to determine why the woman was walking on the interstate.

The victim's name was not released.

There was no impairment or excessive speed on the part of the driver, Sutherland told Denver7.
