DENVER – A car struck and killed an 11-year-old boy crossing East Evans Avenue Monday night.

The collision happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Quebec Street.

The Colorado State Patrol believes the boy and a friend were trying to walk between stopped cars outside of the crosswalk when an SUV, that was still moving in the third lane, hit the child.

The driver of the 2004 Chevy Tahoe, identified Tuesday as 45-year-old Maria Yurivilca, of Aurora, remained at the scene. Troopers say drugs or alcohol don't appear be factors in the crash.

CSP says they haven't been able to find the friend the boy was with to get that side of the story. They have not released the name of the boy who died.
