AURORA, Colo. – A pedestrian died after they were struck by at least two cars in the 18900 block of E. Smith Road in Aurora Wednesday evening.
The pedestrian was hit around 5:40 p.m. as they were walking along E. Smith Road, Aurora police said. Police said that one vehicle struck the person, then a second.
Police said they were investigating a report that a third vehicle also hit the person and did not remain on scene, but that had not been confirmed as of Thursday afternoon. The drivers of the first two vehicles stayed at the scene to help police with the investigation.
It was unclear where the pedestrian was located when they were hit, police said. Sgt. Mike Douglass said the area is “poorly lit” and there is a loose gravel shoulder on each side of the road. Douglass said police are trying to determine if the pedestrian was walking in the road.
The pedestrian, whose gender and identity have not been released, was taken to an area hospital but was pronounced dead due to injuries caused by the crash.
Aurora police said this is the 30th traffic-related death in the city this year.
