Passengers take early flights out of Denver to get to North Carolina ahead of Florence

An early flight from the Denver International Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina was booked Thursday morning, and several passengers actually changed their flights to get out of town earlier than planned.

The Scarletts were visiting their daughter in Estes Park and weren't supposed to leave for North Carolina until Friday. But they decided it would be best to get our early.

"We were worried about being able to get home in time," said Susan Scarlett. "We know that it's important to plan even if it meant cutting our vacation short."

Two sisters from Tennessee were at DIA a day early as well. They were headed to Charlotte ahead of boarding another plane to Tennessee.

"We just kept watching the forecast and knew we needed to get home sooner than later," said one passenger.

Jack Beezer said he has to go to Charlotte first before boarding a plane for Paris. He said he wasn't too concerned, knowing his flight was on time.

"As long as the airlines know what they are doing and the storm isn't far enough inland to really affect Charlotte then I'm feeling good," he said.

As of Thursday morning, several flights to Charleston, South Carolina and Raleigh, North Carolina were canceled. Hurricane Florence is expected to churn over the coast through the weekend.
