Competitor offers use of stations at his salon

PARKER, Colo. -- It was a crash that couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Heather Berard says she and her employees were busy helping customers at her Hairstyling Connections Salon, on South Parker Road, when a car came crashing through the front wall.

The damage was so extensive, that the front wall had to be boarded up and the business temporarily closed.

"We were so upset at not having our little salon," Berard said. "We didn't know what we were going to do."

That's when Parker's Mayor, Mike Waid reached out and asked if there was anything he could do to help.

"I told him the most important thing is finding a salon we can work at while our salon is being repaired," she said.

They posted that request on his Facebook page.

FB Friends who own or work at Hair Salons in and around Parker. Today a car was accidentally driven into Hair Styling Connections in Parker. No one was injured but the salon is damaged. There are 10 ladies who work there who are now in a real pinch...because the are closed down for a couple of weeks. Does anyone have temporary space in their salons for these ladies to work? If you do...please reach out to Heather Berard who owns Hair Styling Connections to offer assistance. I know they have a client wedding coming up and are really worried about providing services. THANKS FOR HELPING A NEIGHBOR!

Several salon owners replied. Among them, Michael Williams of WISP Salon & Spa.

"I said how many gals to you have?" Williams said, to which he received the reply of 10. "And then she said 'The worst thing is I have a wedding party for 13 on Friday,' and that was a real panic. So I said, 'take a deep breath, we've got you covered.'"

Williams told Berard to bring her whole crew to his salon at 18575 Stage Run.

He said things may get crowded on Saturday when the entire crews from both salons will be working together, but he added, "We'll work it out."

Berard's customers are grateful.

"(Mr. Williams) deserves a gold star," said Lauralee Scott, one of Berard's longtime customers. "We're all finicky about our hair. We all want to look our best. Heather is just gangbusters. She knows what she is doing."

When asked if it was a difficult decision to help out a competitor, Williams replied, "I didn't view it that way at all. It was the right thing to do."

Berard says she's grateful that Mr. Williams offered to help her and her staff.

She's also thankful that Mayor Waid helped find someone willing to assist.

"I just think he's a wonderful mayor," she said. "I met him when I bought the salon three years ago. He's just been really supportive and helpful to the  community and I,just think he's a great guy."

Berard told Denver7 that she's still waiting to hear from the building owner as to what repairs will be made and she'll be able to go back to her salon.

She said until that happens, it's nice to know that she and her staff can take care of their customers and help provide for their families.
