GOLDEN, Colo. — Police in Golden are working to determine what caused a chain-reaction crash that killed one motorcyclist Sunday afternoon.
At 2:37 p.m. on Sunday, JeffCom Dispatch received a 911 call about a crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Colfax Avenue in Golden.
When Golden police arrived at the scene, they found two motorcycles in the roadway, and one person who had died.
Witnesses told police that a large group of motorcycles had been traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 6 and somehow, a collision caused a chain-reaction crash that involved several motorcycles and other vehicles.
All of the other motorcyclists left the scene before police arrived. The vehicles involved all had minor damage and the drivers worked with police to provide witness statements.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and police are still working to identify the motorcyclist who died.
U.S. Highway 6 westbound was closed at the I-70 overpass and Colfax Avenue until police finished their investigation.
