COMMERCE CITY — Police are investigating a single-car fatal crash Thursday morning in Commerce City.

At 2:10 a.m., Commerce City police and the South Adams County Fire Department responded to the 10800 block of I-76 after receiving a report of a single-car accident.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined the adult male driver had been traveling eastbound on I-76 when his vehicle struck the center median cable guard.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident — and whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors — is unknown.

I-76 westbound was restricted to one lane between the 10700 and 10900 blocks and the eastbound lanes remained closed until about 6:15 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
