EVANS, Colo. — Officers with the Evans Police Department shot and killed an armed suspect Tuesday, according to the Greeley Police Department.

It happened around noon near the intersection of 37th Street and 35th Avenue.

Officers responded to the area after getting a call about a suspicious person. They arrived to find the person armed and unwilling to cooperate with officers, the department said.

Police said the subject was shot after efforts to de-escalate the situation and the use of non-lethal weapons was unsuccessful.

The person was transported to the hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. No officers were injured.

The Weld County Coroner's Office confirmed on May 3 the person killed was 65-year-old Manuel Moreno, of Evans.

An investigation by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is underway.
