The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning in northeastern Colorado from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
This warning, which indicates critical fire weather conditions, will continue through Monday afternoon through Colorado’s foothills, Front Range, northeast plains and high mountain parks, according to the NWS.
Gusty winds combined low humidity — as low as 12 percent — and high temperatures could create dangerous wildland fire behavior in the Front Range foothills, mountain valleys and northeast plains of the state.
These conditions will also further dry out the vegetation in those areas.
Residents are encouraged to use extreme caution if they need to handle fire outdoors Monday.
Winds will blow west at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph and even 60 mph over the foothills, according to the NWS. Should a fire start, these winds could create unpredictable fire behavior.
The @NWSBoulder issued a RED FLAG WARNING for today due to low relative humidity & wind. Western Boulder County is already under Level 1 Fire Restrictions, however this means no open burning for all of unincorporated BoCo, including campfires on public & private land & ag burns. pic.twitter.com/Z9yxCTSP3h
