DENVER -- A new airline will offer additional international service from Denver International Airport.

Beginning September 16, Europe-based Norwegian will offer nonstop flights to London Gatwick Airport twice a week. Beginning in November, the service will increase to three times a week.

The low-cost carrier will offer flights beginning at $199 one-way to London.

Passengers are not charged for carry-on luggage, but will pay a fee for checked bags, assigned seats and meal service.

Currently, British Airways offers nonstop between Denver and London Heathrow. Airport officials said 400 people a day fly between Denver and London, making London Denver’s biggest long-haul market and second-biggest international market overall.

An official with Norwegian tells Denver7 its presence could impact ticket prices in the market.

"There is a need for lower fares and that's how we can compete. Yes, competitors usually lower their fares a little, so it's good competition for the customer," said Norwegian spokesperson Anders Lindstrom.

Tickets can now be purchased on the airline’s website.

Lindstrom adds the carrier could expand its Denver service in the future.
