North side of CR 308/I-70 Frontage Road closed

Drivers who typically travel the north side of County Road 308, the Interstate 70 frontage road, may have to use an alternate route until further notice due to a large rock slide.

The affected area is about a half mile east of Empire Junction in Clear Creek County.

Saturated, unstable rock also remains above the roadway, making it unsafe for crews to mitigate further potential rock fall risks.

The Colorado Department of Transportation anticipates rock mitigation to occur with warmer weather in the forecast.

"We're in the midst of rockfall season and ask for motorists to stay alert to potential hazards in the roadway while driving," said Paul Jesaitis, CDOT Region 1 Transportation Director. "Our maintenance crews and geohazard team stay very busy this time of year, working hard to clear roadways and ensure the slopes above are stable and safe."

Alternate routes include using I-70 and Alvarado Road.

Local residents can travel on the road to access their properties, but cannot traverse the slide area, officials said. Travel on I-70 and through Empire and Winter Park remains unaffected.
