BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Noodles & Company announced plans this week to close more than two dozen restaurants that aren’t meeting revenue expectations.

The Broomfield-based company said it will close 55 underperforming locations in the first and second quarters of 2017 to “eliminate the negative cash flow of these restaurants and improve overall performance.”

Noodles & Company said the restaurants are all company-owned and many of them opened in the past two or three years in markets where the restaurant isn’t as well known.

The company didn’t provide a list of which locations were slated for closing. Noodles & Company currently has 61 locations in Colorado alone.

If the underperforming locations hadn’t been open during the 12-month period ending in September, Noodles & Company as a whole would have made $7.3 million more, the company said.

Noodles & Company reported same-store sales at company restaurants were down 1.8 percent at company-owned locations and 2 percent at franchise locations in the fourth quarter of 2016.
