PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. — A small wildfire broke out Wednesday morning near the Aspen airport in Pitkin County, but is now under control.

The Aspen Fire Department said around 8:30 a.m., a very small fire was reported near McClain Flats Road an Trentaz Drive. The cause is unknown, but possibly caused by something electrical, the department said.

As of 10:20 a.m., it was under control and mostly extinguished.

A Pitkin Community Alert was issued for residents living in the Aspen, Snowmass Village and Woody Creek areas earlier in the morning.

Holy Cross Energy is aware of the fire and the resulting power outage in the Aspen area, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.

According to Holy Cross Energy, about 2,000 customers are without power around Aspen as of 8:30 a.m., though the company's website map shows 140 customers without power.

Authorities are asking residents to not call 911 or the non-emergency number to report the fire or outage.
