BOULDER, Colo.-- The city of Boulder along with Bridge House opened its first walk-up shelter for the summer.
The city is contracting with the non-profit to open up the shelter calling it Path to Home. It's a pilot summer sheltering program for homeless adults. Path to home will hold up to 50 adults at faith-based locations in Boulder.
"It's been wonderful, they recognize couples here, they treat us fairly," said Cindy Sanchez.
Sanchez is staying at the shelter with her husband. The little amount of income from disability isn't enough. Sanchez told Denver7 that her mental health gets in the way of trying to find a job.
"For my day to day, I go to doctor appointments, therapy appointments for mental health," Sanchez said.
Shelters usually have requirements for people who want to be admitted, but at Path for Home, it's first-come, first-served for anyone.
Case managers and resources are at the finger tips for these homeless adults.
"When we see folks walk up to our doors that are homeless, we're working with folks who have gone through a tremendous amount to get here, and it's really important that we treat them with respect and we provide a very personal interaction to really make them feel safe," said Executive Director of Bridge House, Isabel McDevitt.
