New tech eases transition of patients' medical information from EMS to hospital

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A local health network has partnered with a company to ease the transition as a patient is moved from an EMS to a hospital bed.

Centura Health, which owns St. Anthony Hospital, announced on Tuesday that it is working with ESO Health Data Exchange (HDE) to bridge the gap between EMS and hospital and to allow staff on both ends to share real-time information on the patient.

A first responder can now electronically record data connected to a patient’s signs, symptoms and treatments, which can all be accessed by the hospital so they can “seamlessly continue the care that was started in the field,” according to a press release.

“With this data at the forefront, we are able to learn important clues and information that can guide our diagnosis and treatments for the best possible patient outcomes,” said Dr. Gerald Winston Tripp II with St. Anthony Hospital. “Additionally, this resource bolsters future research opportunities to help abstract data and learn more about it, as it pertains to specific diseases.”
