LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A suspicious car got the attention of Alexander Haskell. He realized it was stolen thanks to social media.

Aurora Police recently launched a Facebook and Twitter page specifically to post information about stolen vehicles.

The Facebook page was only in existence for about 72 hours when police recovered a car as a direct result of a previous post.

Haskell noticed a green Mitsubishi Eclipse parked in front of his home, but what got his attention was the alarm. He heard the car alarm go off at least three times as a woman tried to get in the vehicle.

"The first time I seen her trying to get in the car, and the alarm went off; she took off running," said Haskell.

He decided to Google the license plate and the Facebook page came up right away. Haskell called police to report the stolen car; they recovered it without incident.

"I was like, 'Wow, I have the chance to actually help someone get their car back,'" said Haskell.

Aurora Police launched the pages in response to a 15 percent increase in stolen vehicles.
