CRAIG, Colo. (AP) -- Sixty-eight cats have been removed from a vacant house in the northwest Colorado town of Craig.

The Craig Daily Press reportsthat a majority of the cats had to be euthanized due to their large numbers and feral nature.

Law enforcement is not releasing the name of the home owner who allowed the cats in the house and no charges were pressed.

The owner contacted the Craig Police Department and Craig Animal Shelter in December to ask for help removing the cats, which he thought numbered about 30 at the time.

Animal Shelter owner Kelly Hepworth says the owner waited too long in having the cats removed.

Hepworth says all but about six of the cats have to be euthanized because they are beyond being adoptable.
