DENVER — Thursday, June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, a day to encourage people to get tested and know their status.

"We've come a long way with HIV treatment and prevention, but it's still out there, and getting informed about your status is important," explained Michael Ford with Jefferson County Public Health. "Testing is for anyone and everyone — it's important especially for folks who are sexually active."

About 1.1 million people in the United States have HIV, and 1 in 7 of them don’t know they have it, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Walgreens is offering free HIV testing at some locations on Thursday, June 26. In Colorado, there are two locations:

  • 801 16th St., Denver, CO 80202 (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
  • 15 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80909 (8:30a.m. to 5 p.m.)
