DENVER — A Memorial Day storm system that dumped rain and hail on parts of the Denver area produced multiple tornadoes on the Eastern Plains.

Leroy Warboys, the fire chief of the Weld County town of New Raymer, told Denver7 that at least two tornadoes touched down in the area.

During a phone conversation, Warboys said crews were dispatched to nearby communities to warn them about the powerful storm that was pushing through the area Monday evening.

Ryan Shepard snapped a photo of twin tornadoes touching down southwest of Cope.

The twisters touched down in open fields and were on the ground for several minutes, with one lasting nearly 30 minutes, according to the National Weather Service.

No injuries or significant damage was reported.

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for Yuma, Washington, Kit Carson, Lincoln and Cheyenne counties.

More severe storms are possible Tuesday afternoon. Read more here.
