Mount Evans Highway is closing for the season on Monday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will close State Highway 5 from Echo Lake to the top of Mount Evans to vehicular traffic on Monday, Oct. 5.
CDOT typically closes the five-mile segment from Summit Lake to the top of Mount Evans (14,264 feet) the day after Labor Day, per agreement with the U.S. Forest Service. But due to heavy spring snowfall and construction that delayed the opening CDOT agreed to keep SH 5 open to the summit for an additional 27 days total this year.
SH 5 is scheduled to reopen for the summer season the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
