AURORA, Colo. – The mother of a former Marine who was killed by two gunmen while he was working as a security guard at an Aurora marijuana dispensary is speaking out about her son’s death.

Travis Mason was shot and killed during a June robbery at the Green Heart dispensary in Aurora, just weeks after he ended his career in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Crime Stoppers bumped the reward offered to help find Mason’s killers to $50,000 Monday in hopes of having anyone who knew the suspects come forward.

But the mother of Mason, who was a father of three himself, explained to Denver7 Wednesday how much the loss of her son has affected her.

“Every time we spoke on the phone, I always said, ‘I love you,’ and he said, ‘I love you too,’” Mason’s mother, Rose Dominguez, told Denver 7. “When [your kids] walk out that door and you think you’ll hear from them or see them again, you don’t. When they’ve been taken from you like that – in that cruel way, just taken away – it’s very hard.”

Hear more from Dominguez and on the search for her son’s killers on Denver7 at 6 p.m.
