DENVER — Fans, friends and supporters of the stock show community raised more than $200,000 for the family of a professional bull rider who died after he was injured in a Denver competition Jan. 15.
Mason Lowe, 25, was competing in the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo at Denver's National Western Complex when a bull’s legs struck him. Lowe had a massive chest injury that damaged his heart. He died at a local hospital.
The NWSS and Professional Bull Riders set up in-arena and online fundraiser for Lowe’s family on Jan. 16.
As of Wednesday evening, the donation total had surpassed $200,000.
“The outpour of support from so many people has been tremendous, and we hope this will provide some small amount of comfort for the Lowe family during this difficult time and the days ahead,” said Paul Andrews, president and CEO of NWSS.
Sean Gleason, the CEO of PBR, said donors' generosity is a comfort in a time of extraordinary grief.
“Mason’s wife Abbey asked me to relay her sincerest gratitude to everyone who has extended thoughts, prayers and donations,” he said.
Donations are still being accepted on NWSS’s website here or by mail, which can be addressed to National Western Stock Show, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver, CO 80216. Staff ask that all checks are made payable to the National Western Stock Show with “Mason Lowe” written on the memo line.
