COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — State health officials are still trying to figure out if smoke released from Suncor Refinery in Commerce City was hazardous. The orange plume of smoke was released Friday after a power failure.
The refinery is working to restart its operations. Officials say residents could see white, non-hazardous clay-like dust being released over the weekend. It’s part of the process of starting the refinery up again.
The company says it is monitoring the air around the refinery. It will have to report the cause of the malfunction and the emissions to the state health department.
