DENVER — Health officials with the Tri-County Health Department reported Monday three additional cases of the West Nile Virus in Adams and Arapahoe counties.

Two of the three residents have been hospitalized, the report read. Health officials said these are the first human WNV infections reported in the TCHD jurisdiction of Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties this year.

So far this year, there have been 47 West Nile cases in Colorado. There were 68 cases of West Nile Virus in Colorado in 2017.

A Weld County resident was the first confirmed human case this year. The resident became ill on July 27 and was hospitalized the following day, according to a release from Weld County.

Many municipalities have established mosquito control programs, but “the public needs to be vigilant, because this illness has a permanent summer presence in our state,” health officials said.
