CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Ty Tesoriero was a 10-year-old boy who loved animals, especially dogs, and the color red.

On Saturday, Ty, who was killed by his father in a murder-suicide on Sept. 21 in Lone Tree, was remembered at a memorial service at Logos Central Chapel in Centennial. His death led to many questions, including why his father, Anthony Tesoriero, was able to have custody of his son and why he was able to have a gun, despite having a protective order filed against him.

During the service, friends and family, including Ty's mother Jing Tesoriero, shared memories of the 10-year-old.

"There's so much truth to the words that nothing is more heartbreaking for a mother than losing her child," an emotional Tesoriero said as she tried to hold back tears. "He was so full of life and all of the promise of things to come. The things we talked about wanting to do, building robots, being a YouTuber."

"He always liked red," she said. "Every time you ask him, he even wanted me to paint his bedroom wall, just red."

"As a mother, I want him to be remembered as a kid that just loved animals, loved people, loved his school," the grieving mother said.

The emotions were still so raw that she couldn't finish.

Ty's memorial service was open to the public. Attendees were encouraged to wear bright-colored clothing and bring a stuffed animal to be displayed by Ty's picture.

After the service, the stuffed animals were donated to a domestic violence crisis center. Donations in Ty's memory can also be made at any Wells Fargo Bank under the account, "#JusticeForTy," his family's attorney said.
