Friends and family came together Sunday to honor one of the victims killed in last weekend’s deadly crash on S. Colorado Blvd. and E. Mexico Ave.
The overflow crowd packed Brother Jeff's Cultural Center in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood to honor Anthony ‘Zin’ Mills.
“We're not here to talk about death,” said Jesse Muhammad, a friend of the victim. “We're here to talk about life. Because there is no six feet of dirt that could contain the ball of fire that was Wali Aqueel."
Mills also went by the name, Wali Aqueel.
Mills was a fairly well-known hip-hop musician and was the founder of internet radio station 'All Real Radio.'
He had just moved his family from Houston to Denver six months ago, but already had such an impact here - at one point during the service organizers had to move part of the standing room only crowd into the kitchen.
"I knew that my son was loved throughout the Houston and Denver communities,” said his father Preston Mills “But, I didn't know he had this much love."
“I'm overwhelmed,” said Mills’ wife, Ciandra Jackson. “But, I'm not surprised because he really did touch so many people. Tomorrow's not a promise. So, you have to make sure that you check on your loved ones and that you stay present - and that you live your life and don't just exist."
The driver suspected of causing the crash is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of DUI.
