A teen who fell into a Parker retention pond earlier this month has died.

Max Gantnier and two of his friends fell through ice covering the pond off of Tallman Drive on Jan. 14.

Police said Gantnier was able to grab a branch extended by rescue crews. He spent the last 11 days at Children's Hospital.

Douglas County Schools said in a statement that Gantnier was battling brain trauma and was taken off of life support over the weekend. He died Monday afternoon.

His friend, Patric Lantz, spent 35 minutes under the ice and died the day of the fall.

The third boy, Cole Robinson, was released from the hospital more than a week ago.

The boys were sophomores at Legend High School.

"I am truly saddened by this loss and know it will affect our school community, especially given all that Legend has been through this year. It is important for us to remember to lean on each other and provide help as needed. As always, thank you for your continued support. I know we will get through all of this together," Principal Jason Jacob said.

A crisis team will be at the school on Tuesday to help students, staff and families.
