For the first time ever, the City of Denver could revoke the license of a marijuana grow facility based on negative feedback received from neighbors.
The facility in question is Starbuds, near Brighton Boulevard and Interstate 70.
Its license to grow weed is being challenged amid odor complaints and conflicts with an overall neighborhood revitalization plan.
"It's just a nasty odor, because I don't like the smell of it," said ten year resident Vance Holiday. "Like a skunk odor when they spray," he added.
The grow operation produces about 25 pounds of pot per month. If the license is revoked, its operations would cease. However, Starbuds dispensary would still be able to operate from the building.
"I know this neighborhood has aspirations of cleaning itself up and whatnot. But I'd like to be a part of that and I don't know why I couldn't coexist with whatever the plans are," said owner Brian Ruden.
Ruden added he's willing to put in an odor mitigation system -- but won't spend the money until he knows the fate of his grow license.
A decision is expected in the near future.
