DENVER – For more than a century, a Denver church in the West Washington Park neighborhood has been home to a more… traditional type of worship, but that’s about to change.
That’s because the space at 400 South Logan Street, formerly occupied by a Lutheran Church, will now be the home of the International Church of Cannabis.
Run by Elevation Ministries, the church’s mission is to “offer a home to adults everywhere who are looking to create the best version of themselves by way of the sacred plant.”
The church officially opened on April 20, the unofficial marijuana holiday across the United States.
During the grand opening, the public was invited to attend a viewing of the church and its artwork and Elevation Ministries held a sacred ceremony at 4:20 p.m., where the public was asked to remain silent for a minute to meditate on how marijuana has had an effect on their lives.
Lawmakers and city officials have stressed there is no religious exemption to get around the state’s public consumption law.
