AURORA, Colo. – A man convicted in November of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment for causing a crash that paralyzed a teenage girl in November 2015 will serve three years in prison.
Kenneth D. Schlager, 61, flung a rake at a car speeding down his Aurora street while raking leaves in his yard Nov. 1, 2015. He had yelled at the driver to slow down, but the driver turned around, which was when Schlager threw the rake.
The rake went through the vehicle’s windshield, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into a parked car. The vehicle flipped upon impact.
Alexandra Galvan, then 16, was a passenger in the vehicle, which was driven by her brother. She was paralyzed in the crash.
Police say the vehicle was going 36 miles an hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.
Schlager was convicted of felony criminal mischief and three counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment in the case in November 2016.
A judge on Thursday sentenced him to three years in prison.
