COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The man suspected of shooting three people, killing two of them, on Saturday in Colorado Springs was found dead Tuesday of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound when police served a warrant at a home in the southern part of the city, police said Thursday.

Police said over the weekend that Kyree Howard-Walker, 27, was suspected of being responsible for several carjackings and shootings on Saturday that left two people dead and another wounded. Officers had been searching for him since Saturday.

He was accused of a shooting and carjacking early Saturday morning, then hours later, apparently shot at cars and at a man in another part of the city before allegedly committing another carjacking. Sunday, police recovered one of the stolen vehicles and identified Howard-Walker as the suspect.

Colorado Springs police said in a news release Thursday that they had received tips that Howard-Walker and another person, later identified as 36-year-old Serena Sublett, were at a home in the 1000 block of Florence Avenue. Sublett also had an outstanding arrest warrant, police said.

Detectives got a warrant to search the home and found Sublett inside. She was arrested without incident, police said. As officers made their way through the home, they found a man dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Colorado Springs police said their officers never fired any shot.

CSPD detectives and El Paso County Coroner’s Office personnel were able to identify the man was Howard-Walker. His cause and manner of death had not been released by the coroner as of early Thursday afternoon.

The two people killed in the shootings were identified by the coroner’s office earlier this week, and police named them on Thursday. Eugene Pischke, 39, of Colorado Springs was shot and killed on Westmeadow Drive, and Carl M. Thompson, Jr., 28, of Colorado Springs, was shot and killed on Torin Point.

Colorado Springs police said their murders will be the seventh and eight homicide investigations in the city so far this year. This time in 2019, they had only investigated two homicides.

Police said the investigation remains active and thanked the community for their tips in the case
