GOLDEN, Colo. — Authorities have identified a man who was hit and killed by a Regional Transportation District light trail train in Golden last week.
Golden police said the man has been identified as John Aaron Reed, 34.
Reed was struck by a W Line train just before 8 p.m. on Dec. 20, police said.
Witnesses told investigators Reed was walking westbound on the light rail tracks near Ulysses Street and 6th Avenue. When the eastbound train left the Golden station, the driver saw the man, hit his horn and brakes, according to police, but was unable to avoid hitting the man, who died as a result of the crash.
Police said Monday that Reed was homeless and his family hadn’t heard from him since October.
Officials are still awaiting a toxicology report, but police said there were no obvious signs that Reed was impaired by drugs or alcohol when he was struck by the train.
Investigators are looking at RTD video footage to get a better understanding of the incident, police said.
