PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot while trying to get away from Pueblo police.
Police were called to investigate a possible shoplifting or trespassing incident at a department store Oct. 10 when they found an occupied, stolen vehicle at the scene.
As officers tried to block the vehicle in, police say the driver tried to run over one of the officers. Shots were fired and 22-year-old Jonathan Martinez was struck.
The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.
Martinez, who was wanted on three warrants at the time of the encounter, remains hospitalized.
