Police were called to the home to deal with an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance. Investigators say the man resisted arrest, and officers initially used a stun gun, which apparently did not have an effect.
Perez was shot when officers say he produced a weapon. No officers were injured, and it's unclear how many shots were fired.
Investigators have not said what kind of weapon Perez allegedly brandished, or how many officers fired their guns.
Perez has active arrest warrants for felony assault and escape from the Department of Corrections.
