Authorities have identified a man shot and killed by the Larimer County Sheriff's SWAT team as 38-year-old Philip Salazar.
Salazar was shot early Saturday morning in a mobile home at 401 North Timberline Road in an unincorporated section of Fort Collins.
Deputies were called to the home around 11:38 p.m. Friday to investigate a domestic disturbance.
"A woman was being held hostage by a male suspect and was barricaded in a mobile home," said Lt. Bobby Moll with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
Hostage negotiators responded to the scene.
"He refused to release the female or comply with SWAT commands," Moll said.
SWAT team members entered the mobile home and the room where the suspect and hostage were barricaded after learning that the suspect posed an imminent threat to the hostage, according to Moll.
A deputy believed the suspect had a weapon in his hand and opened fire, striking Salazar several times.
"A large pair of scissors was recovered at the scene, which was consistent in description with the weapon that officers viewed in the suspect’s hand," Fort Collins Police Services said in a news release.
The Larimer County Coroner office said Salazar died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.
Jail records show Salazar was arrested on Jan. 11 in the same mobile home park. He was booked on charges of second-degree assault, criminal mischief, obstruction of telephone/telegraph services with a domestic violence enhancer.
Authorities were not releasing the name of the victim She was checked out at the hospital and released. Information about the extent of her injuries was not available
The suspect was the ex-boyfriend of the victim who lived in the mobile home, Moll told Denver7.
Fort Collins Police Services is investigating the shooting.
The deputy who fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
