DENVER – A man charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting on New Year’s Day 2017 has been sentenced to more than three decades in prison.
Aaron Espinosa, 26, was sentenced Monday to 32 years.
Espinosa had originally been charged with first-degree murder, but in February, he pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in the heat of passion.
Prosecutors said Espinoza shot and killed Hugo Ramirez, 35, on the doorstep of Ramirez’s apartment near South Lowell Boulevard and West Floyd Avenue on Jan. 1, 2017 after the two men got into an argument.
Ramirez died at the hospital the next day.
