BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A man was transported to a hospital after a large boulder pinned his leg on a Boulder County trail.
On Thursday just before 2 p.m., numerous emergency personnel were asked to investigate an incident involving a person who was pinned under a rock on the Eldorado Canyon Trail.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, along with personnel from the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Rocky Mountain Fire, Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, Boulder Fire, Lafayette Fire and North Metro Fire responded to the scene.
Search and rescue personnel began searching the area. They found a witness, who escorted them to a man in a scree field who had a large boulder on his lower leg. Authorities estimated that the rock weighed between 1,500 and 3,000 pounds.
Over the course of several hours, multiple agencies worked to extricate, stabilize and carry the man out of area to a waiting ambulance. The man was then transported to a local hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
