DENVER- A man who admitted to attacking a woman because of her race was sentenced to four years in prison.
The victim and her friends were walking on South Broadway Streetnear East Mississippi Avenue around 2 a.m. on July 25, 2015 when 28-year-old Christopher Derby attacked.
She needed stitches for a laceration she suffered in the attack.
Derby pleaded guilty to a committing a bias-motivated crime.
He apologized for his actions in court on Monday when he was sentenced to four years in prison.
That was the maximum sentence possible under the plea agreement.
