Man dies in 200-foot fall on climb near Maroon Peak, officials say

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. – A 61-year-old man died after falling about 200 feet on a climb near Maroon Peak in Pitkin County on Wednesday, authorities said.

The victim was identified as James Hasse, according to the Pitkin County coroner.

Crews with Mountain Rescue Aspen recovered Hasse's body on Friday, Pitkin County Sheriff's Office Captain Jesse Steindler said. He was climbing with three other men on the South Maroon Peak route when the accident happened.

Hasse was from Summit County, the coroner's office said.
