RUSTIC, Colo. – A man whose car veered off Highway 14 and into the Cache la Poudre River sometime early Friday was found dead outside the vehicle later in the morning.

Investigators estimate the car went off the road at mile marker 90 near Rustic sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. A spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol said troopers received a call about the crash around 9:30 a.m.

Troopers located the car upside down and lodged against a boulder in the river. The car’s driver, now identified as Ronald Ocobock, 56, of Pierce, was found dead on the river's shore, leading investigators to believe he survived long enough to crawl out of the vehicle.

It wasn’t clear what caused the vehicle to go off the road and a coroner will determine the driver’s exact cause of death.

It appeared the driver was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, CSP officials said.
