DENVER – A man accused of stabbing to death a 21-year-old woman on Christmas Day was officially charged Thursday.
Marshall Westcott, 23, was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Kayla Burke. He was also charged with attempted murder for stabbing and seriously injuring 20-year-old Joseph O’Neill during the same altercation.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 25 in the 1400 block of North Pearl Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Investigators say after stabbing Burke and O’Neill he cut himself in the neck and throat. He was transported to the hospital and treated for lacerations to his neck.
Westcott remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County court Jan. 6.
