MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. – Law enforcement officers arrested a man accused of shooting his gun while driving through Garden of the Gods Park, then leading officers on a chase Thursday night.

Officers from Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs joined El Paso County deputies in investigating the gunfire just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

They found a truck driving through the area and tried to pull it over, though the driver sped off, according to Manitou Springs police.

After again finding the vehicle in a parking lot on El Paso Boulevard, it drove off again, allegedly running traffic lights and stop signs.

The driver eventually stopped in a parking lot on Manitou Avenue and tried to run. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Amon Copeland, was caught shortly afterward and arrested.

Copeland allegedly had two guns and ammunition in his vehicle, according to police. He is charged with DUI, eluding arrest, reckless driving and endangerment, prohibited use of a weapon and carrying a large-capacity magazine.

His bond was set at $2,000.
