DENVER — A man charged with the murder of his girlfriend was sentenced Thursday.
Jose Vallejo-Cano, 27, was charged with first-degree murder in November 2016 and pled guilty in April 2018 to second-degree murder and second-degree assault. He was sentenced to 60 years in prison Thursday, according to the Denver District Attorney's Office.
On Oct. 29, 2016, the body of 23-year-old Araceli Miranda was found in the back seat of a car in the 4800 block of Kingston Street. She had been strangled to death.
Vallejo-Cano was found hiding nearby and was arrested.
Miranda, a mother of four from Aurora, had been reported missing since that morning by her mother, who was concerned for her safety because her family had received a notification that Vallejo-Cano had removed his monitored ankle bracelet.
He was wearing the bracelet and was out on bond after allegedly assaulting Miranda on Oct. 2, less than a month before her death.
