Print-at-home Broncos tix cause new buyer beware

The Denver Broncos' new ticket system for the NFL playoffs is creating a new buyer beware issue.

Tickets for Sunday's Broncos-New England Patriots AFC Championship game went on sale at noon. The 5,000 tickets sold out in about five minutes.

This year, the Broncos are not issuing hard paper tickets for the game. That means the majority of tickets will be printed at home, creating a problem on the resale market to verify which ones are good and which ones are copied or have printed out a dozen times.

Ticket broker Candy Lewis buys tickets from season ticket holders, many of which she has done business with since 1998.

"We know who we're dealing with and I think that's the key," said Lewis.

The Broncos recommend using the NFL Ticket Exchange because those tickets are guaranteed. Buyers will be issued new tickets to print, with new barcodes, while the original barcodes will be voided.

Buyers who think they can call the Broncos ticket office prior to buying third party seats off of Craigslist or a private sale, will be disappointed to find out that the Broncos will not verify that tickets are valid.

"The key is legitimate sites that guarantee their tickets if you don't want to get burned," said Lewis.
