CENTRAL CITY, Colo. — A major water main break has affected all businesses and residences in Central City, according to the city.
The water main break occurred along the 300 block of Eureka Street at 6:45 a.m. after the water system lost pressure due to a break in the main conduit that supplies drinking water to the city, according to an urgent notice posted by the city Friday. This could increase the chance of harmful microbes in the water.
Authorities shut down water to the city to make the emergency repairs. As of 1 p.m., it was unclear when water would become available again.
Areas below the break may have residual water that’s still in the system. Those who still have water service are asked to boil it before drinking it or using for cooking.
Six porta-potties have been set up at the following locations:
- 123 Eureka St. (Johnny Z’s)
- 103 Eureka St. (Central City Visitor Center)
- 107 Main St. (Bonanza)
- 114 Main St. (Dostal)
- 131 Main St. (Annie’s)
- 321 Gregory St. (Grand Z)
Bottled drinking water is available at Central City City Hall, located at 141 Nevada St.
