LYONS, Colo. (AP) — Two northern Colorado town officials have been placed on leave amid a federal investigation into how Lyons is procuring flood recovery work.
The Daily Times-Call reports that Mayor Connie Sullivan announced Tuesday that the Lyons town administrator and clerk have been placed on temporary, paid administrative leave as a precaution during the federal investigation.
No answers were given during a seven-minute Town Council meeting Wednesday evening.
Lyons was hit by major floods in September 2013. The U.S. Office of Inspector General with the Department of Homeland Security found in April that Lyons was spending a $36 million Public Assistance grant for damages resulting from the flooding, landslides and mudslides that occurred as a result of the storms.
The audit recommended that the Federal Emergency Management Agency monitor the remaining $27 million to avoid misspending.
It is unclear if the recent investigation is connected to April's audit.
