Longmont woman surprised by bull elk just outside her window Tuesday morning

LONGMONT, Colo. – A Longmont woman got quite the surprise as she was watching TV Tuesday morning, when she turned her head to look out the window and found a giant bull elk staring back at her.

“It was amazing,” Kristy Meining said. She tells Denver7 she was watching “Dancing With the Stars” around 9:30 Tuesday morning when she saw the elk.

Meining says she finds coyotes, foxes and raccoons in her pasture often, and even gets bears in her trees on occasion, but this was the first time she’d seen an elk to close.

“I would never be that close to one if there wasn’t a wall dividing us,” Meining laughed.

Her Shih Tzus weren’t too happy to have the elk so close either. Meining said they have barked all morning since they first spotted the elk.

The elk moved further into the yard by 11 a.m., but Meining said she was hoping he went away before she had to load up for a trip later in the morning – she didn’t think she’d need a helping hand from the big guy.
