Lone Tree repeals anti-panhandling law

LONE TREE, Colo. – The City of Lone Tree repealed an anti-panhandling ordinance that has been on the books for more than a decade.

The Lone Tree City Council voted  to repeal the ordnance during a second reading of the mater during Tuesday evening’s meeting.

The Lone Tree ordinance banning “aggressive” panhandling passed in 2004. However, similar restrictions adopted by other cities around the country have been struck down by the court system, citing First Amendment violations.

Those court challenges have effectively made the Lone Tree ordinance largely unenforceable.
