LITTLETON, Colo. — Firefighters rescued two cats and treated them with oxygen after a house fire in the Highlands Ranch.

At 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Littleton firefighters responded to a residential basement fire at 532 Northridge Road in Highlands Ranch. Smoke alarms and the smell of the smoke woke the family of three and they all escaped without injuries. The fire was contained to one room and was quickly extinguished.

After firefighters treated the cats with oxygen in the home's front yard, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office transported them to an animal ER for further care.

This fire is under investigation.
